The Membership Engagement Coordinator furthers the ministry of welcome to all whom God calls to this community of faith. Working alongside the Associate Pastor for Congregational Engagement, the Membership Engagement Coordinator assists members in identifying meaningful opportunities to engage in the life of the church. The Membership Coordinator is guided by White Memorial Presbyterian Church’s commitment to “Worship 3” as the primary engagement strategy for new and current members. This role is both administrative and congregation-facing in nature.

This is position will average around 20 hours per week and will include Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides administrative support to the Associate Pastor for Congregational Engagement in the Believing and Belonging new member class. Attends classes and joining days which occur on Sunday mornings on a quarterly basis.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Pastor for Congregational Engagement and the Associate Pastor for Outreach and Community Engagement to identify opportunities for member engagement inside and outside the walls of the church.
  • Manages the Volunteer Accelerator tool with the support of WMPC’s Ministry Architects consultant.
  • Consistently checks in with staff and lay leaders to gather feedback, learn of obstacles or frustrations, and invite ideas for improvement.
  • Keeps the tool updated with current information and opportunities.
  • Trains leaders responsible for building volunteer teams to maximize their use of the Volunteer Accelerator.
  • Ensures excellent care, provision of next steps, and follow-through for Volunteer Accelerator survey respondents.
  • Assesses incoming surveys and based on the top results, may send names to relevant leaders for a next-step conversation.
  • Collaborates with relevant church staff to create and maintain effective volunteer onboarding systems.
  • Encourages consistent use of the tool by ministry leaders and regular engagement by the congregation.
  • Conducts yearly check-ins with new members during their first two years of membership to assist them in identifying ways to engage more deeply and meaningfully.
  • Collects quantitative and qualitative data regarding member engagement. (Metrics may include worship attendance, household giving, program attendance, leadership roles, etc.)
  • Manages new visitor hospitality and welcome process, including following up with first-time visitors.
  • Receives and responds to information provided on the weekly Friendship Register.
  • Cultivates relationships with prospective and new members, seeking to deepen connection to and engagement with the church for people of all ages.
  • Helps orient new members to church communication and technological tools.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Pastor for Congregational Engagement, supports the Hospitality Team (ushers/greeters).
  • Attends meetings and supports the work of the Congregational Engagement Committee.
  • Maintains visibility in the congregation by regularly attending worship and church-wide programming.
  • Manages the member nametag process.

Qualifications:

  • History of active participation in a congregation. Prior experience in a PC(USA) congregation preferred.

Hospitality/Accessibility: Generates a sense of hospitality and or accessibility by his or her very presence; communicates a sense of availability, warmth, openness and approachability; fosters natural connections between members of the congregation and with visitors; supports a culture of welcoming and connection in the life of the congregation.

Membership Development: Supports the membership process of the congregation with a well-defined articulation of membership and its benefits; actively connects visitors with the life of the congregations in ways that support membership commitment and growth; understands the membership process of the congregation as a system that incorporates hospitality, welcome, orientation, membership and deployment.

Pay: From $21.00 per hour
