Reporting to the Yeast Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting laboratory teams within White Labs to ensure that all required supplies are made to specification and available in stock.
Essential Functions & Duties
- Operates laboratory autoclave to sterilize media, water tubes and other laboratory related supplies.
- Pours and prepares media plates and working solutions as needed and to ensure minimum stock levels.
- Takes and performs sample analysis of yeast propagations, such as pH and gravities.
- Stocks laboratory supplies as required.
- Performs basic data entry.
- Follows laboratory protocols.
- Maintains laboratory cleanliness.
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree a plus.
- 1 year of laboratory experience preferred. [NA note: meaning 0 year is fine, but 1 year preferred]
- Knowledge and understanding of aseptic technique a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret basic data sets required.
- Works well independently and cooperatively with others.
Physical Demands
While employee may have a workspace, time spent conducting sedentary work is approximately 50%, with the other 50% of time spent walking or standing. May be required to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Position requires use of hands and ability to speak, hear and see clearly. Position works in a laboratory environment with few instances of exposure to fumes or chemicals.
