Job Description
The White Earth Reservation Business Committee is currently seeking a qualified applicant who will be responsible for Investigating alleged or suspected criminal or civil regulatory offenses involving violations of federal, state, local and tribal statutes and codes to determine if evidence is sufficient to recommend prosecution.
- Determine scope, timing, and direction of investigations to ensure the appropriate laws and regulations are considered for all investigations.
- Creates and completes reports to comply with the required laws.
- Prepares, submits and follows up on crime laboratory requests.
- Coordinate with the Medical Examiner assigned to handle officer involved death investigations. Attend autopsies as required.
- Contact other agencies and law enforcement jurisdictions to exchange information, including but not limited to military, NCIC, FBI, DEA, ATF and other criminal history or intelligence resources.
- Ensure accurate and complete information is contained in reports.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Knowledge of and ability to follow and apply the policies and procedures of the White Earth Tribal Council and the White Earth Police Department.
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
- Ability to work cooperatively within a group to make the work of the group successful and effective.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Skilled in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
- Knowledge of the White Earth Reservation demographics, culture, history, and lifestyles.
- Associate degree in law enforcement or related field and graduate of an accredited police academy recognized by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST).
- Must have POST Board licensure or be eligible to be licensed.
- Must Have a minimum of five (5) years law enforcement experience.
- Prefer bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or related field.
- Must be physically and mentally able to use force to fulfill job duties.
- Valid Driver’s License and insurance for travel between sites and other related businesses.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
