It is the role of the Captain of the Correctional Division, to support the Jail Administrator (Major) in efforts to forward the Mission and Overall Goals of the White County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division. This position ensures the safe, secure, humane, and lawful custody of inmates in compliance with Tennessee law, Tennessee Corrections Institute (TCI) standards, and Sheriff's Office policies.
This includes but is not limited to efforts to reduce recidivism rates, develop and oversee inmate focus programming, scheduling, and procedures. The Captain is responsible for developing and overseeing safety, security, and compliance protocols for the property of the White County Justice Center, as well as developing and overseeing the training of all staff. Furthermore, the role involves developing and overseeing engagement efforts and management of staff morale, directly managing, developing, and reviewing the performance of Lieutenants, and conducting investigative functions of the Corrections Division. The Captain manages accreditation and certification requirements and assists in any role as designated by the Jail Administrator or acts in an executive capacity in the absence of the Jail Administrator.
The Captain of Corrections reports directly to the Majors of the White County Sheriff's Office with priority given to the Major of the Correctional Division unless expressly required to report to the Major of Professional Standards, Chief Deputy, or Sheriff.
