The Tax Manager’s responsibility is to manage, coordinate and assist with the compliance related to, sales/use taxes, payroll withholding and unemployment insurance for White Castle System and related entities. This position will also be responsible for preparation of state consolidated income tax returns and related apportionment workpapers. Preparation of these returns must be accurate, timely and prepared prior to the various due date to avoid penalties. The Tax Manager will also manage and prepare tax account reconciliation for various tax accounts which include real estate, personal property, payroll and sales and use tax. Additionally, this position will assist with special projects assigned by the Corporate Tax Director which will include federal income tax preparation, audit assistance and research of past and current tax laws for compliance or audit matters. The role will also assist with shareholder entity and trust tax returns.

What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required;
- Master’s degree in Taxation or Business Administration is required;
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience of compliance with income, payroll and sales and use tax;
- Strong leadership and team management skills;
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills;
- Ability to work independently and in team environments;
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced work environment;
- Strong technical research skills.
- Prepare state and city consolidated returns and corresponding apportionment workpapers as well as calculate quarterly estimated payments;
- Manage and coordinate the sales and use tax function. Prepare and review returns;
- Coordinate, manage, and review the payroll and unemployment tax functions and prepare returns company entities;
- Review, prepare and assist with balancing the tax accrual general ledger accounts;
- Assist in the preparation of the federal consolidated and separate filing returns;
- Prepare the reconciliation of the income, real estate and personal property accruals and related payments for the company’s entities;
- Monitor real estate valuations and tax rates for any increases or decreases and produce semi-annual and annual tax detail expense accrual work papers for the Auditors. Prepare budget reports for these accounts;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
