Project Estimator - Storefront and Glass

Whitaker Glass of Central Indiana is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator / Purchasing Manager to join our growing team. This hybrid role combines estimating commercial glass and glazing projects with managing procurement and vendor relations. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of storefront and curtain wall systems, can read architectural drawings with precision, and is proactive in ensuring accurate bids, competitive pricing, and on-time material delivery.

·       Review architectural drawings and specifications to prepare accurate estimates for storefronts, curtain walls, entrances, mirrors, and glazing systems.

·       Perform detailed material takeoffs using GDS Estimating, WinBidPro, or other software.

·       Identify labor, materials, subcontractor, and equipment costs.

·       Collaborate with project managers and field staff to confirm constructability and scope.

·       Submit formal bids to general contractors and track bid results.

·       Maintain current pricing databases for glass, aluminum, hardware, and accessories.

·       Coordinate with vendors (YKK, Oldcastle, Trulite, etc.) to obtain competitive quotes.

·       Prepare value engineering options to improve profitability and project success.

·       Issue purchase orders and manage inventory for glass, aluminum, doors, and hardware.

·       Maintain preferred vendor relationships to secure best pricing and reliable delivery timelines.

·       Track material lead times, confirm acknowledgments, and manage change orders or substitutions.

·       Review job budgets and material cost reports to ensure profitability.

·       Oversee purchasing workflow from quote through delivery and reconciliation with accounting.

·       Collaborate with field operations to ensure timely material readiness for installations.

·       Support project handoffs from estimating to project management.

·       Keep digital records of bids, POs, and vendor communications.

·       Participate in weekly operations meetings to review active bids and upcoming material needs.

·       Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvement in estimating and procurement.

·       Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial glass, glazing, or similar construction estimating/purchasing role.

·       Proficiency in GDS Estimating, WinBidPro, or similar takeoff software.

·       Strong understanding of architectural drawings, elevations, and specifications.

·       Knowledge of aluminum systems (YKK, Kawneer, Tubelite, etc.) and glass products.

·       Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and PDF markup tools (Bluebeam preferred).

·       Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
