Position Summary
The Guest Service Representative is responsible for greeting and assisting guests.
Essential Job Duties
- Develop general knowledge of Park District programs to respond to specific questions and to direct guests to the appropriate staff.
- Greet guests.
- Open/close Guest Service office.
- Answer telephone and provide accurate information or direct calls appropriately, taking accurate messages when necessary.
- Familiarity with the facility floor plan and emergency/evacuation procedures.
- Familiarity with the day’s activities scheduled in the facility.
- Handle cash.
- Process program registrations and appropriate paperwork and waivers.
- Process/issue photo Identification cards to pass holders, members and employees.
- Accepts, verifies, and processes program registrations and any required support documentation; includes entering, balancing, and printing daily batch reports.
- Responsible for accepting, verifying, and processing membership applications; includes entering data, taking photos for IDs, and following all cash handling procedures for account payments.
- Assists guests with registration inquiries, including suggesting programs and services appropriate for the registrant's age, ability interests, and availability.
- Aids in troubleshooting technical registration issues that a patron may be experiencing.
- Operate office machines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Attend staff meetings/trainings.
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
- Maintain necessary files.
- Process incoming/outgoing mail.
- Attendance/Punctuality – Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.
- Supports and exhibits the established organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation, recognition, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people.
- Attend required training and safety programs.
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements
High School or further education preferred. Minimum of one year of customer service experience, preferably in a municipal government agency or in a recreation setting. General computer skills and initiative to continue to learn how to use new and updated computer software programs. Ability to deal with guests diplomatically, handle conflict appropriately and answer questions regarding Park District operations. Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts, including holidays, weekends, and in support of events as needed. The work week shall be designated by the Guest Service Manager as necessary to provide proper service and support to internal and external guests.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.
- Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
- CPR/AED certification or be able to earn within 60 days.

Working Conditions
- Most activities will be performed indoors.
- Driving to other park facilities will require the worker to be outside.
- Employee may be exposed to cleaning agents and toner chemicals.
