Job Summary
A substitute teacher temporarily takes over a classroom in the absence of the regular teacher to ensure educational continuity. This requires following the provided lesson plans, maintaining a productive and orderly classroom environment, and managing daily routines. The substitute teacher is adaptable, reliable, and able to quickly establish rapport with students.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum:
- Implement the lesson plans and instructions left by the regular teacher to ensure students continue with the curriculum. If a lesson plan is not available, provide age-appropriate educational activities.
- Maintain discipline and a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Distribute, collect, and review student work, including classwork and homework, following the instructions of the regular teacher.
- Interact professionally with students, school staff, and administrators. This includes providing feedback to the regular teacher about the day's events, student behavior, and progress.
Student Support and Guidance:
- Oversee students within the classroom and during other activities, such as in the hallways, cafeteria, recess, and school grounds.
- Take accurate attendance at the beginning of each class and submit it according to school procedures.
- Distribute, collect, and review student work, including classwork and homework, as instructed by the regular teacher.
- Be aware of and follow all school emergency protocols, such as for fire drills or lockdowns.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction as needed to reinforce learning concepts and help students understand the material.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Bachelor's degree in education and/or a related content field is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Actively supervise student behavior to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Engage with students in and outside the classroom, maintaining close proximity to ensure supervision and safety during activities such as breaks, lunch, recess, sports, and field trips.
Other Duties:
- The employee may perform other duties as assigned to the employee by the Head of School.
- Work toward resolving challenges within the school community, ensuring a supportive and high-morale environment.
- All employees are expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of their work, including representing the school positively in the community.
