What are the responsibilities and job description for the Development Partner position at Wheelhouse Commercial Development?
Job Summary: A Development Partner is responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, managing relationships with key clients, and playing a critical role in the growth of our commercial real estate portfolio. This is a strategic, results-driven sales role that requires strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving, and a competitive drive. Ideal candidates are self-motivated, persistent, and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team to achieve ambitious goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate leads for new business opportunities through cold calling, networking, and consistent outreach
- Identify and build long-term client relationships with an eye toward growth and retention
- Negotiate deal terms and collaborate with internal teams to advance deals from early-stage discussions through closing
- Conduct market research to identify expansion trends, client needs, and desirable development locations
- Utilize the company’s CRM to track leads, client activity, deal progress, and key follow-up tasks
- Help coordinate the early stages of a development deal — including site analysis, client requirements, and internal team handoffs
- Represent the company with professionalism, integrity, and a client-first mindset in all external communications
What We’re Looking For:
- 2 years of professional experience in a client-facing, results-driven role (e.g., sales, account management, business development, or related fields)
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build trust and close deals
- Demonstrated grit, consistency, and follow-through in managing long sales cycles or complex partnerships
- A learning mindset — eager to grow into the technical aspects of commercial real estate development
- Organizational skills to manage a dynamic pipeline and prioritize competing demands
- Team player who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Bonus Points For:
- Familiarity with commercial real estate, real estate development, or construction
- Experience working with CRM or deal pipeline software (e.g., Salesforce, Monday.com, Dealpath)
- Background in site selection, lease negotiation, or multi-location expansion programs
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, real estate, or a related field
