Wheeler Steel Framing Systems is an industry leader in utilizing Cold-formed Steel framing material for new construction. For each project, we provide detailed shop drawings & a “kit” consisting of all the material required; ready to start erecting the day it is delivered. Our unique process provides each client with a faster, more streamlined build than traditional “stick framing.”

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Estimator with an understanding of Cold-Formed Steel and residential framing to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting Architectural and Structural Engineering plans and creating a detailed Material Takeoff.

You will collaborate with architects, engineers, and our internal drafting team to ensure that our shop drawing match the plans, meet specifications, and comply with industry standards and regulations.

We offer a semi-flexible schedule, and this position could be ideal for someone who is looking to find a 2nd job or pick up some extra work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

• Analyze both architectural plans and structural drawings and details to verify accurate measurements & catch any potential conflicts.
• Measure lengths and areas, count individual items, and create a comprehensive list of all required materials in order to create a detailed material order for each project.
• Confirm the accuracy of shop drawings - floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and internal team members regarding drawing accuracy, design, and drafting standards, and to ensure designs are feasible and meet project requirements.
• Resolve technical and design challenges as they arise, interpret revisions, and implement detailed corrections.
• Assist in creating bids for potential projects.

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Experience:

Candidates possessing a broad range of education, training, and relevant work experience will be considered for this role.

Minimum 4-5 years experience with construction estimation for a diverse range of building types (residential, multi-family, mixed-use, and/or commercial projects) is required.

Individuals with hands-on experience in Cold-formed Steel framing are highly desired.

Bachelors Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Building Science, or a related field.

OR

Associates Degree/Technical Degree/Certificate in Construction Management or Estimating, or a related field and 6 years of experience in estimation.

OR

Substantial experience in construction as GC or Superintendent, Metal Framer, etc & experience with creating material takeoffs.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Proficiency with PC/Windows (Mac proficiency is a plus) & cloud based drives and file sharing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and specialized estimating software.
• Familiarity with architectural and/or engineering industry-specific technical knowledge, and the ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into accurate takeoffs.
• Must be able to read and understand construction drawings, and have extensive knowledge of building & construction standards and specifications.
• Strong math proficiency, as it relates to calculating takeoffs.
• Excellent attention to detail, and time management & organization skills.
• Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and track revisions.
• Possess clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communication skills to be able to interface with internal team, as well as external clients.
• Strong problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and comfortable working under tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment, and highly motivated to take on responsibility.
• Must have a strong sense of commitment and responsibility for the final product, eagerness to learn, and a passion for architecture, design, and building.

Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position is negotiable (starting at $28 - $30 per hour) -commensurate with relevant experience, education, and qualifications.
