Patient Account Representative (Contract)
Location: Frisco, TX (Onsite Only)
Employment Type: Open-Ended Contract
Pay Rate: $17.00 – $19.50 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Patient Account Representative to support revenue cycle operations for a healthcare organization in Frisco, TX. This onsite contract role is responsible for resolving patient accounts efficiently by managing insurance claims, researching discrepancies, and ensuring timely reimbursement.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the full healthcare revenue cycle, including billing, insurance collections, appeals, and account resolution. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Account Resolution & Insurance Collections
- Review and resolve patient accounts to ensure timely reimbursement and account closure.
- Follow up on claim submissions with commercial, managed care, Medicare, and Medicaid payors.
- Contact insurance companies, patients, and third parties via phone, email, and payer portals to resolve outstanding balances.
- Review remittance advice (EOBs) and identify payment discrepancies, underpayments, or denied claims.
- Initiate appeals, disputes, corrected claims, and secondary billing as needed.
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable to prevent aging and reduce outstanding balances.
Revenue Cycle Management & Documentation
- Research accounts using patient accounting systems, payer websites, and internal resources.
- Document clear, accurate, and detailed notes on all account activity and resolution steps.
- Update insurance information, patient demographics, and billing data as necessary.
- Review billing forms including UB-04 and HCFA 1500 for accuracy and compliance.
- Identify payer trends, delays, or recurring issues and escalate concerns appropriately.
System Navigation & Process Support
- Utilize patient accounting and hospital systems to analyze and resolve accounts.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards established by leadership.
- Prioritize workload effectively to ensure accounts are resolved without backlog.
- Support team members and assist with special projects or additional duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including billing, coding, and medical records, to resolve issues.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or Accounting preferred.
- 1–4 years of experience in medical billing, hospital collections, or revenue cycle operations.
- Strong understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle, including billing, insurance collections, appeals, and payment resolution.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance, managed care, Medicare, and Medicaid claims processes.
- Familiarity with Explanation of Benefits (EOB), UB-04, and HCFA 1500 forms.
- Ability to work onsite in Frisco, TX.
- Minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet productivity goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in hospital or healthcare system revenue cycle departments.
- Familiarity with payer contract terms and insurance reimbursement processes.
- Experience using patient accounting or hospital billing systems.
- Knowledge of HMO, PPO, IPA, and capitation payment models.
- Experience resolving denied claims, appeals, and payment discrepancies.
