Robotics Applications Engineer

wheel.me
Detroit, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 7/10/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/5/2027

As a Robotics Applications Engineer you will serve as the technical expert supporting wheel.me's channel partners and customers throughout the deployment lifecycle. Your primary focus is to enable partners to independently deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and support wheel.me's robotic solutions while ensuring a consistently high-quality customer experience.

This is a hands-on field role. You should expect to travel approximately 30% of the time to partner and customer sites across North America, and to spend significant time on-site: on the factory floor, configuring hardware, mapping facilities, and troubleshooting live systems. Although channel partners will lead the majority of customer deployments, you will provide technical guidance, training, and troubleshooting support, stepping in to lead deployments directly for strategic customers, new partner onboarding, or particularly complex implementations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train, mentor, and enable channel partners to independently deploy, configure, maintain, and support wheel.me robotic solutions.
  • Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert for partners throughout deployment, troubleshooting, system optimization, and customer support activities.
  • Lead customer deployments directly when required, particularly during new partner onboarding, strategic customer implementations, or complex technical engagements.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, deployment playbooks, training materials, and best practices that enable scalable partner success.
  • Assess customer sites, validate deployment readiness, and provide technical guidance on infrastructure, networking, and environmental requirements.
  • Configure, deploy, test, and optimize robotic hardware and software solutions to ensure reliable system performance.
  • Create, validate, and maintain digital maps of customer environments to support autonomous robot navigation.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and system integration issues, partnering closely with Engineering and Product teams to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Channel teams to technically validate customer use cases and support solution design during the sales process.
  • Support demonstrations and proof-of-concept activities as needed, enabling partners to successfully showcase wheel.me solutions while building their long-term technical capabilities.
  • Represent wheel.me as a trusted technical advisor with partners and end customers, building confidence in both the product and deployment methodology.
  • Travel to partner and customer sites throughout North America (approximately 30%) to support training, deployments, and strategic customer engagements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience (or demonstrated equivalent experience) deploying, supporting, or implementing robotics, automation, industrial equipment, or other complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience deploying and supporting robotic hardware and software in manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, or industrial environments.
  • Working knowledge: Linux, AWS, Docker, and cloud-based environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and system integration issues.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, and transfer technical knowledge to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on technical execution with technical training, mentoring, and advisory responsibilities.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Product, Commercial, and Partner organizations.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30% to partner and customer locations throughout North America.
