What are the responsibilities and job description for the Guest Lecturer - Artist Teacher of String Bass position at Wheaton College?
The Conservatory of Music at Wheaton College (Illinois) invites applications for a part-time guest lecturer position beginning in January 2026. Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching applied string bass lessons, contributing to studio class offerings, and recruiting prospective students. Other responsibilities may include coaching chamber music, and adjudicating auditions and performance juries.
All candidates should have evidence of successful applied teaching experience and a minimum of an earned master’s degree in music. Priority will be given to applicants with a record of strong teaching, accomplished performance, and Christian faith.

Responsibilities
- Teach weekly string bass lessons to undergraduate music majors, music minors, and/or non-majors.
- Hold studio classes.
- Mentor and prepare students for juries, competitions, graduate school auditions, etc.
- Actively recruit by engaging with high school programs, youth orchestras, festivals, and clinics.
- Coach chamber music as needed.
- Adjudicate performance juries and orchestra auditions.
Minimum qualifications
- Master of Music
- 3 years of studio teaching experience
Preferred qualifications
- College-level string bass teaching experience
- Doctor of Musical Arts degree
