Biblical & Theological Studies — Excavations Coordinator
Responsibilities
The Excavations Coordinator for the Biblical and Theological Studies Department is responsible for assisting in the overall administration and publications projects of the annual archaeological excavations in Ashkelon and Shimron. The coordinator assists the director of the excavation and reports to the excavation director. This position is 20 hrs/wk, 12 months/yr. This position pays $24-$26/hr.
Duties
1. Assists in faculty research.
2. Coordinates applications to the excavation – monitors applications, corresponds with applicants and potential applicants, tracks applicant payments and completion of participation prerequisites.
3. Organizes materials from the current excavation season for the reports to the Israel Antiquities Authority and excavation donors.
4. Assists in correspondence with the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Israeli National Parks Authority, including preparation of the license request.
5. Coordinates advertising for excavation recruitment at Wheaton College.
6. Facilitates the excavation Summer School Program through interface with administration at Wheaton College, including coordinating Excavation Program budget with the Accounting Department and the Academic Grants office.
7. Organizes housing and volunteer transportation to the excavation for the summer excavation.
8. Monitors housing and payments for housing on behalf of the excavation.
9. Monitors and completes monthly reconciliation of excavation expenses (including credit card, overseas bank accounts, and petty cash).
10. Organizes projects in the Wheaton Archaeology Laboratory.
11. Supervises students working in the Wheaton Archaeology Laboratory.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Education: BA degree required; familiarity with archaeological vocabulary preferred
2. Self-motivated and dedicated to excellence
3. Professional Skills: strong organizational skills, excellent computer skills
4. Ability to multitask and to take initiative, familiarity with excavation in Israel preferred
5. Optional: Availability for staff position in Shimron for 8 weeks in June / July
Physical Requirements
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 10 pounds.
