What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher, Mild / Moderate Support Needs (2026-27 School Year) position at Wheatland Union High School District?
The special Education Class Teacher shall
1. develop program plans and teach in terms of the child's ability and handicap in relation to the curriculum;
2. maintain behavioral climate in his/her classroom conducive to learning;
3. work cooperatively with administrators to solve problems;
4. aid in the development of the curriculum by attending in-service meetings and serving on curriculum committees as necessary and assigned;
5. confer with students and regarding the and social of pupils;
6. make home visitations as necessary and feasible;
7. make bi-annual pupil progress reports as may be called for in the management of the schools;
8. work cooperatively with principals and other district administrators and supervisors in planning and implementing the educational programs of the schools;
9. plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers as assigned;
10. assist in interpreting the program and goals of the school district to the community;
11. maintain plans, seating charts, and materials in such a way that they can be utilized by substitute teaching personnel when the need arises;
12. assist in maintaining acceptable pupil behavior in school areas outside the classroom, such as the halls, grounds, library, multi-purpose room, etc;
13. exercise supervision and care over all furniture, books, supplies, and equipment entrusted to his/her care and instruct pupils in the proper use and preservation of school properties;
14. attend meetings called by order of the principal, superintendent, or other administrator authorized to call meetings;
15. supervise extracurricular activities as directed;
16. serve, as requested, on school and district-wide committees and project teams;
17. attend and participate in required in-service training activities; and
18. work with the principal in planning an individualized in-service program.
