Content and Communication Director

Whatcom Family YMCA
Bellingham, WA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/30/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/29/2026

Tell the Stories That Move Our Community

Every day at the Whatcom Family Y, there are stories worth telling—children gaining confidence, families finding support, staff changing lives, and community members coming together.

We’re looking for a Content & Communication Director who can find those stories and bring them to life.

This is a hands-on creative leadership role for someone who can set communication strategy and personally create the content that makes it happen. You’ll lead storytelling, content creation, social media, public relations, and internal communications while helping our community understand the impact of the Y.

What You’ll Do

  • Tell our story. Find and develop compelling stories about our programs, people, donors, volunteers, partnerships, and community impact.
  • Create engaging content. Produce written, visual, and multimedia content including photography, video, newsletters, articles, campaign materials, donor communications, and digital content.
  • Lead social media. Develop strategy, create content, manage platforms, engage audiences, and grow the Y’s digital presence.
  • Drive communications strategy. Create communication plans that strengthen the Y’s visibility, reputation, and relationships with members, donors, staff, and community partners.
  • Manage media relations. Coordinate press releases, media outreach, public statements, and community awareness efforts.
  • Support fundraising and campaigns. Partner with development, marketing, and program teams to create communications that inspire people to give, participate, and get involved.
  • Champion our brand. Ensure communications consistently reflect the YMCA’s mission, values, voice, and brand.
  • Strengthen internal communication. Help keep staff and volunteers informed, connected, and engaged.

What You Bring

We’re looking for a creative communicator who is as comfortable behind the camera or writing a story as they are developing a strategy. You bring:

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience creating engaging digital, social media, photography, and video content.
  • The ability to take content from idea to finished product.
  • Experience managing social media and developing content strategies.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to jump in wherever needed.
  • A passion for telling authentic stories that connect people to a mission.
  • Experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, content creation, or a related field.
