What are the responsibilities and job description for the Asset Accounting Manager position at What Chefs Want!?
The Asset Accounting Manager will report to the Corporate Controller and will oversee certain financial,
accounting, and fleet management activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for several
aspects of financial reporting, including overseeing certain aspects of lease accounting, fixed asset
accounting, the monthly close cycle, and general ledger activity. The Asset Accounting Manager will work
with operations management to requisition fleet vehicles as needed and ensure proper accounting in
accordance with ASC 842 as well as monitor other fleet-related expenses such as fuel/mileage charges
and maintenance. The Company’s fleet includes 400 assets. The Asset Accounting Manager will also
conduct monthly close processes related to fixed assets such as posting journal entries, preparing the
fixed asset roll forward, calculating depreciation, accounting for disposals, etc. In addition, the Asset
Accounting Manager will serve as a liaison to senior management, assisting/leading finance projects and
performing ad-hoc financial analysis. Transportation industry experience a plus. Must be knowledgeable
of all aspects of accounting.

Responsibilities
- Maintain fleet master file and review fleet-related expenses
- Own lease accounting processes and control, including reviewing leases, entering new leases, and modifications into the lease accounting software, and reconciling lease activity on a monthly basis
- Maintain the fixed asset subledger for all tangible and intangible assets, including preparing a fixed asset rollforward
- Prepare monthly journal entries for leases, fixed assets, and other areas as assigned
- Serve as primary finance liaison for National fleet vendor representatives and operational fleet subject matter experts (SMEs) company-wide
- Work with fleet vendors to maintain complete and accurate fuel tax filings
- Partner with fleet SMEs to develop and/or improve processes that serve to reduce fleet expenses and mitigate risk
- Assist with integration process of the fleet operations and accounting functions for newly acquired companies
- Create fleet dashboards to review with operations leaders bi-monthly
- Assist in preparing the annual fleet budgets in conjunction with VP of FP&A
- Responsible for monthly financial close including preparing certain balance sheet reconciliations to ensure financial statement accuracy
- Assist with compiling monthly financial reporting packages
- Monitor operating budgets in coordination with senior management
- Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company’s procedures
- Assist with Department of Transportation audits as needed
- Prepare and file property tax returns
- Liaise with external auditors
Requirements
MUST
- Ability to work autonomously to define processes and drive results
- Strong understanding of technical accounting (GAAP)
- Skilled in the use of accounting software and experience troubleshooting common accounting issues
- Highly analytical with strong computer skills and high comfort using technology and systems, including advanced skills in MS Excel
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and detail oriented
- Highly motivated professional committed to excellence, accuracy, and quality
- Flexible/Adaptable to change with a growth mindset
- Demonstrated ability to work as a valuable team member/leader as well as self-directed
- Outgoing and positive attitude to promote and support Company culture
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
PREFERRED
- CPA, CMA, or related certification
- MBA or 5 years’ experience in public accounting or comparable accounting manager roles
- Transportation experience, including DOT compliance
- Experience coordinating APIs and/or automating data exchange processes
- Acquisition experience
