Pay: $21.75 - $23.00/hour*

Availability: Full-Time (40 hours),

Shifts are scheduled within store operating hours of 7:00am–9:00pm, with an additional 30-minute window for opening and/or closing duties. Weekend availability is required.

We are currently seeking Assistant Store Manager to join our team at Whalers General Store at the Kamaole Center — a busy island market serving both local residents and visitors with everyday essentials, souvenirs, and grab-and-go items.

The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supervising, directing and managing all phases of store operations in assistance to and/or in absence of the Store Manager. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for ensuring the highest level of customer service under the Company’s World Class Service Program throughout the store. This includes growing sales, enhancing profitability, providing World Class Service, offering unique, high quality products in an inviting, customized environment and building strong relationships with all associates where our customers are the top priority. The Assistant Store Manager is a role model and leader and must solve problems, make informed decisions and manage the operations wisely in order to achieve maximum results. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for assisting the Store Manager with the day-to-day management of the store, obtaining maximum sales and margins, ensuring maximum standards of customer service, the development of staff and meeting all targeted projections and goals through the effective utilization of available personnel and resources.

Qualified candidates must be friendly, enthusiastic, highly motivated professionals who are service driven. They would thrive in a fast-paced retail environment and can support daily store operations, lead team members, and deliver exceptional customer experiences.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of retail and/or customer service.
  • Minimum of two (2) years Supervisory or assistant management, preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year of cash handling experience, POS systems a plus.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Basic computer skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Must be a motivated and hard-working self-starter who takes initiative to ensure that all tasks are performed accurately and in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, communication, organization and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical equations for working on cost effective scheduling, gross profit percentage, budgeting and gross profit.
  • Ability to delegate job duties, manage, lead, develop and motivate managers and associates to ensure that store operations are running effectively.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver items weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Demonstrates a positive, service-oriented attitude and a commitment to providing a welcoming customer experience.
  • Must possess a valid TB clearance as required by local regulations.
  • Must comply with all company policies, procedures, and workplace requirements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Store Operations

  • Support the Store Manager in overseeing day-to-day store retail operations including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and store readiness.
  • Ensure all departments operate efficiently while maintaining company service and operational standards.
  • Coordinate store operations in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Assist with scheduling, inventory management, and operational planning.
  • Monitor store performance and help implement strategies to achieve sales and profitability goals.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and support associates across store operations.
  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing team members.
  • Promote a positive team culture focused on service, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Delegate tasks and ensure operational responsibilities are completed efficiently.

Customer Experience

  • Ensure a consistently high level of customer service throughout the store.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Lead by example in delivering welcoming, attentive service.
  • Assist customers in locating products

Product & Merchandising

  • Monitor product levels and assist with receiving, stocking, and inventory management.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of store products.
  • Assist with merchandising standards, product displays, and store presentation.
  • Help ensure inventory accuracy and proper stock levels.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work environments.
  • Ensure team members follow operational and safety protocols.

**Eligibility is dependent on position and status of full-time, part-time, or casual.


  • The advertised rate of this posting consists of a starting base pay rate of $18.75, plus a premium of $3.00 that is currently offered for this location. The premium is not included when determining compensation for non-worked hours, including, but not limited to, compensation for PTO (Sick/Vacation), non-worked Holidays, FMLA and Worker's Compensation. Compensation for all non-worked hours is calculated on the base pay rate only, not the advertised rate of this posting.
