Aerospace Masking and Shot Peen Technician

WGI MRO Services, a division of WGI Inc., is an FAA Part 145 repair station specializing in the repair of commercial and military aircraft engine components.

We are seeking an experienced Aerospace Masking and Shot Peen Technician to support our special-process operations. The primary focus of this position is the precision masking of aircraft engine components for plasma spray, shot peening, blasting, and other controlled processes.

This is detailed, hands-on work. Proper masking is critical to protecting finished surfaces, maintaining part requirements, and ensuring that coatings and other processes are applied only to the required areas. The position will also assist with shot-peen setup and operation.

What You’ll Do:

• Perform detailed masking of aircraft engine components for plasma spray, shot peening, blasting, and other special processes
• Apply specialized tapes, plugs, fixtures, compounds, and other masking materials
• Identify the exact surfaces requiring processing or protection
• Read and interpret blueprints, operation sheets, technical instructions, and customer specifications
• Verify masking locations and dimensions before releasing components for processing
• Inspect completed masking for accuracy, adhesion, and proper protection
• Remove masking after processing without damaging the component or finished surfaces
• Clean, sand, blend, deburr, or prepare components as required
• Load and unload parts and fixtures
• Set up and operate shot-peen equipment
• Position parts, fixtures, and the shot-peen nozzle or positioning arm
• Perform and document Almen strip testing
• Verify shot-peen intensity, coverage, media, and process requirements
• Accurately complete production and quality documentation
• Maintain part identification and traceability throughout the repair process
• Work with Production, Engineering, and Inspection to resolve masking or processing issues
• Follow all FAA, customer, quality, and safety requirements

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience with aerospace masking, thermal-spray masking, plating masking, shot peening, blasting, or a related special process
• Strong experience performing detailed masking with tapes, plugs, fixtures, and protective compounds
• Ability to read and follow blueprints, specifications, operation sheets, and detailed work instructions
• Ability to accurately lay out masking boundaries and protect critical surfaces
• Strong hand skills, patience, and attention to detail
• Ability to recognize masking problems before they affect the component
• Strong documentation and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
• Dependable attendance and a strong commitment to quality and safety

Experience with plasma-spray masking, aircraft engine components, shot-peen setup, Almen strips, intensity verification, or coverage requirements is strongly preferred.

Candidates with strong aerospace masking experience who have not performed every shot-peen function listed are still encouraged to apply. Shot-peen training can be provided to the right candidate with the required masking background and attention to detail.
