Responsibilities:
The Podiatry Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs more complex nursing assignments within the Ambulatory Care Outpatient Clinic setting. Responsible for goals and interventions that promote veterans in attaining maximum functional potential. This is accomplished through but not limited to modalities such as ambulation, bowel and bladder training, dressing, grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, range of motion exercises and fall prevention modalities. Performs practical nursing duties of considerable difficulty and responsibility under general supervision. The LPN is expected to exercise independent technical judgments and to possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art, and science of practical nursing. Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to carry out a full range of practical nursing care and specialized patient care duties to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems in the Podiatry Clinic/Outpatient setting.
- Prepares and administers prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, Intramuscular, and/or intravenous) and performs treatments according to established policies/procedures.
- Performs technical, preventive, and rehabilitative nursing procedures for patients with complex needs. Promptly recognizes potential urgent or emergent patient care situations and seeks the assistance of Doctor of Medicine (MD)/Physician Assistant (PA)/Nurse Practitioner (NP)/Registered Nurse (RN).MD/PA/NP/RN for appropriate interventions.
- Serves as a resource person for other staff within the organization and demonstrates ability to implement complex/specialized patient care, prioritize patient care treatment modalities.
