About the role:
The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for developing and implementing safety policies and procedures with the support of upper management; conducting training plant wide; ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations to create a safe working environment; verifying and managing PPE inventory; working with external contractors for safety apparel control (forklifts, fire extinguishers, etc.).
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain safety policies that comply with local/state/federal safety regulations and update as needed.
- Perform safety audits throughout the facility to identify potential hazards and document findings and improvements when needed.
- Schedule and conduct safety training programs for employees including new hire safety orientation and refresher courses for all employees.
- Investigate near misses and injuries.
- Monthly check of all fire extinguishers for compliance throughout the facility and forklifts as well.
- Ensure eye washing stations are accessible and working.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and work with areas to develop next steps to reduce or eliminate risks.
- Monitor and manage PPE and replenish as needed for all employees plantwide.
- Report all non-compliant issues and injuries to upper management, i.e. report, KPI, trends, etc.
- Stay current with safety and health regulations.
Requirements:
- Understanding OSHA and regulatory guidelines; OSHA certification is a plus
- 5β10 years of experience in manufacturing environments
- Experience in safety and health regulations in manufacturing environments
- Ability to work and communicate with employees at all levels
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Strong leadership and authority
- Ability to enforce rules and procedures
- Skilled in managing internal dynamics and relationships with supervisors
- Hands-on, practical approach
