In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for safely transporting children to and from school and program activities, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the journey. Duties

• Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations
• Transport students to designated locations, including schools, community centers, and extracurricular activities
• Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures
• Maintain a clean, mechanically sound vehicle by conducting regular inspections and reporting issues promptly
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations
• Enforce student discipline policies and behavior management strategies during transit to promote safety and positive conduct
• Have a current SD driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record. Report any driving violations to the Director, within 24 hours. Failure to report may result in disciplinary action.
• Maintain confidentiality of all families and staff.
• Cell phone use is prohibited while driving.

Requirements

• Must be able to pass a background test
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience in bus driving or commercial driving preferred
• Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws
• Certification in first aid, CPR, and defensive driving techniques; willingness to obtain or maintain certifications as needed
• Experience working with children or in childcare settings; ability to manage student behavior positively
• Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for wheelchair assistance or vehicle maintenance tasks
• Strong communication skills
• Familiarity with school policies, student discipline procedures, and emergency response protocols related to transportation

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
