Summary
We are seeking a Tankerman to join our team at Westport Orange Shipyard. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe transfer of liquid cargoes on barges, ensuring compliance with safety regulations while maintaining operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the loading and unloading of liquid cargoes on barges.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations during cargo operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and safety gear.
- Coordinate with crew members to maintain efficient operations.
- Document all cargo transfers accurately for reporting purposes.
- Assist in training new employees on safety protocols and procedures.
Requirements
- Proven mechanical knowledge relevant to maritime operations.
- Experience in a similar role or within the maritime industry is preferred.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations related to cargo handling.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly to challenges.
Skills/Qualifications
:Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC), Tank-PIC (barge DL) endorsement.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift grasp, talk, hear and have good vision.
Ability to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold.
One year of experience as a Tankerman, a valid driver's license, and reliable transportation.
