Westmoreland Mechanical Testing & Research is looking to fill our part time Lab Assistant role. In this position you will be involved in the post-test inspection process of tested specimens. You will also be involved in re-beading and making of new thermocouples used for elevated temperature testing, storing and scrapping tested specimens and excess testing material, and assisting the laboratory with other tasks as needed. Flexible, part time schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform post-test inspection of tested tensile specimens using digital calipers, micrometers, and an optical comparator
- Utilize calibrated equipment for precision inspection of reduction of area and elongation measurements of tested specimens
- Digitally store measurements prior to analysis and certification
- Weld new contact beads onto thermocouples used for elevated temperature testing
- Make new thermocouple leads using pre-insulated wire spool, thermocouple plugs, identification labels and thermocouple bead welder
- Store recently completed work using boxes and labels
- Enter and store specimen information digitally for traceability
- Sort designated tested specimens and excess material into specific scrap metal bins based on material type
- Majority of the role will be performed sitting at an inspection workstation or standing at an optical comparator
- Occasional lifting, stooping, bending, walking
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- US Citizenship required
- Must be 16 years of age or more

- The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Comfortability working with small tools and working in a hands-on environment
