POSITION TITLE: Department Clerk 1
DEPARTMENT: Domestic Relations
REPORTS TO: Deputy Director
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of this position is to research, locate, retrieve, and process various records, forms, and documents for the public, co- orker . county officials and personnel, and to provide information and assistance to the public either in the office or over the telephone.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
High school graduate with technical training in basic clerical procedures, including use of computers, some prior job experience helpful but any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.

- Provides assistance at counter including answering questions, locating files, giving information, completing applications, forms, and documents issuing receipts.
- Retrieves information from files, computer data bases, and indexes to provide assistance to co-workers, public, and other departmental personnel.
- Updates files, indexes, computer data bases, dockets and other record systems, adds new records/information, or deletes outdated records in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
- Prepares a variety of documents, reports, correspondence, memos, and other related materials.
- Sorts incoming mail and/or prepares outgoing mail;.distributes inter-office mail, documents, files and materials as appropriate.
- Answers telephones, takes messages, routes calls, and/or provides some information.
- Makes copies of documents, forms, maps, files, or other materials using appropriate copying equipment.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including computer terminal, typewriter, calculator, adding machine, copier, fax machine, cash register, microfilm reader, printer, and telephone.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and measure data.
- Ability to record and convey information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, co-workers, supervisor, other department/agency personnel, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare a variety of documents, forms, reports, receipts, indexes, cards, files, or other materials using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation grammar, diction, and style.
- Ability to use and understand departmental terminology.
- Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of documents, guidelines, policies, forms, procedure manuals, code books, and instructions.
- Ability to understand basic financial record-keeping procedures.
- Ability work effectively in an office environment.
