Teacher Assistant

Description

Our Head Start program is looking for a Full-time Teacher Assistant to join our team at our Trafford Head Start center. Using your knowledge of child development, you will assist the teacher in providing a safe and nurturing learning environment. You will provide this support by:

• Supervising children in all program related activities,
• Assisting the children with self-help skills and/or toileting,
• Organizing and sustaining the positive functioning of children in a group, and
• Building the positive self-concept and individual strengths in each child.

This is accomplished through housing, counseling, support, education, intervention, collaborations, partnerships, information, referrals, and networking.

Head Start is a free program that serves children, ages 3-5, and their families in both learning centers and the home. Head Start provides pre-Kindergarten learning experiences for young children to help prepare them for a smooth transition into Kindergarten. The overall goal is to promote school readiness.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalency required.
• Previous experience with children and families preferred.
• Familiarity with the Head Start program preferred.
• Must be able to provide or successfully obtain child abuse, state police, fingerprint-based criminal background, and sex offender registry clearances.
• Initial health examination and TB test required.
