Tenure-Track, Full-Time, Assistant Professor of English (Literature)
The Department of English at Westmont College invites applications for a tenure-track colleague at the assistant professor level, to begin August 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 3/3 load (24 units per year), which will include upper- and lower-division literature and writing courses. The candidate would teach in at least one of the following areas: Anglophone literature of the Global South; British literature after 1600; American literature before 1900; Literature of the Americas; literature and religion; and/or medical humanities. Literature courses can be suited to the candidate’s expertise, and all colleagues in the English Department regularly teach introductory Writing for the Liberal Arts (Composition) courses.
Minimum qualifications: (1) an earned Ph.D. in English or another appropriate field by the date of appointment; (2) a demonstrated commitment to excellence in the college-level teaching of literature and composition; (3) a record of an active research agenda; (4) a demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and valuing diverse perspectives in teaching, research, and service.
Preferred additional qualifications: (1) Teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: Anglophone literature of the Global South; British literature after 1600; American literature before 1900; Literature of the Americas; literature and religion; medical humanities; (2) interest in interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching within the Christian liberal arts; (3) interest in contributing to interdisciplinary minors, such as Ethnic Studies, Environmental Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies, Global Studies, and/or Writing; (4) interest in developing courses for Westmont’s general education curriculum; (5) interest in leading off-campus study programs.
