POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medication Technician is responsible for safely and accurately administering resident medications in accordance with Arizona Department of Health Services regulations and community policies. Working under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, this role supports residents’ health and well-being by ensuring medication routines are followed, documenting care provided, and promptly reporting changes in condition. The Medication Technician also contributes to a positive living environment by fostering respectful, person-centered and meaningful engagement and assisting with daily living needs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITY:
- Follows the individualized service plan of each resident and assists with ADLs, such as dressing, feeding, and toileting.
- Helps to facilitate the ambulation of residents who may require the use of assistive devices.
- Safely demonstrates use of mechanical lifts, when necessary, such as Hoyer and Sara lifts.
- Assists with the admission, discharge, and transfer of acute and long-term residents.
- Documents and records on facility E-MAR: Notes, vitals, bowel movements, meal percentages, and skin concerns.
- Reports any discernable symptoms, reactions, or changes in condition to Nursing leadership, the Assisted Living Manager, and the resident’s Medical Practitioner, if indicated.
- Safe medication administration and basic wound care that aligns with a resident’s Physician Orders.
- Performs simple housekeeping services for each resident, including laundry and trash assistance.
- Actively participates in regular staff meetings and staff development, as required.
- Uses time effectively on the floor to promote meaningful engagement in care and activities.
- Exemplifies strong leadership qualities by assisting in caregiver tasks to improve the quality of resident care, while also encouraging activity engagement amongst residents, visitors, and team members to promote meaning and purpose.
- Displays a positive, resident-focused demeanor that emphasizes independence, autonomy, and dignity.
- Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned by Nursing leadership, or the Assisted Living Manager.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Verifiable, certified caregiver within the State of Arizona
- Current fingerprint clearance card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Memory care training, as required by the Department of Health Services (Or able to receive within 30 days of hire).
- Documented training and experience as a Medication Technician. Previous experience in an assisted living setting is preferred.
- Able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours.
- Can lift up to 40 pounds.
- Can sustain prolonged standing and walking.
- All qualified applicants must successfully pass a background check, APS registry check, substance test, fingerprinting requirements, memory care training, and tuberculosis testing.
