The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is a full-time position responsible for enabling student-athletes to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of individual and group weight, strength, and fitness training programs. This coach will develop programs by evaluating current physical conditioning, tailoring strength programs for specific needs, and demonstrating proper performance of exercises. The position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance. To be considered for this position, candidates must be certified as a strength and conditioning specialist. 

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Understand and follow UMAC, SLIAC, and NCAA rules and regulations, including those that pertain to training teams and individuals – in season and out
  • Work outside traditional business hours and weekends
  • Design and implement a comprehensive injury reduction and performance enhancement program (strength development, speed development, power development, movement capacity development, etc.) for all team sports
  • Work closely with head coaches and sports medicine staff to design appropriate programs for teams/individuals and monitor athletic performance
  • Utilize sports science data within Vitruve to monitor athletic performance
  • Collaborate with sports medicine staff regarding the rehabilitation process and return to play protocol of injured student athletes
  • Maintain equipment in the Wetterau Center Weight Room and other athletics facilities as necessary
  • Manage a budget for the Wetterau Center Weight Room and Vitruve software
  • Team Zoom/Virtual meetings with student-athletes during holidays, summer breaks, and any other extended closures when athletes may be off campus
  • Supervise and mentor Strength and Conditioning Graduate Assistant(s)
  • Supervise weight-room work study students
  • Supervise on-campus internships for exercise science majors


Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred.  

Certifications: 

- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or

- Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa)

- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification

Experience: Three or more years of demonstrated success in strength and conditioning at the high school and/or collegiate level. Experience implementing Velocity-Based Training (VBT) technology and programming preferred.

  • Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the College, UMAC, SLIAC, and NCAA
  • Ability to hire and supervise qualified assistants and student workers
  • Ability to market and promote
  • A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed
  • Ability to attend seminars, meetings and other professional development opportunities at or away from the College
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities
  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes 
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed
  • Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Ability to communicate effectively - orally, by phone, in person, and in writing
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a timely manner
  • Ability to represent the department and College in a friendly, courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment
