The Fitness & Personal Training Specialist will develop and coordinate fitness/wellness program activities for residents and staff to improve overall health and well-being. Provide individualized personal training services including assessment, program design, instruction, progression, and documentation in accordance with professional standards and established policies and procedures.
Shift(s): Full Time, no nights and weekends.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Responsible and accountable for the oversight and coordination of wellness related programs and activities according to established standards, policies, and procedures
- Evaluate, correct and give instruction to residents according to fitness needs. Teach/train flexibility, cardiovascular, strength training, etc. exercises
- Work with Recreation and other staff members in developing special programs and events as related to wellness; market Fitness Center working closely with other staff to reach maximum number of resident and staff usage
- Monitor client progress, maintain clear communication, and ensure accurate documentation of training sessions and outcomes
- Conduct periodic safety and equipment inspection of all areas in department per established criteria for ensuring safety and appearance
- Assist in aquatic programming needs as appropriate
- Set up, transport, and properly store fitness and aquatic equipment before and after use
- Develop future programs and services to align with customer needs
- Attend and contribute to monthly Resident & Employee Wellness Committee meetings
- Ensure a safe and supportive training environment at all times
- Collaborate with the Wellness team and other departments to support consistent and high-quality resident experience
- Maintain required certifications and complete continuing education to remain current in evidence-based practices for training older adults
- Deliver safe, supportive, and effective personal training sessions that reflect best practices in senior fitness and functional aging
- Work with Recreation and other staff members in developing special programs and events related to wellness; market the Fitness Center and personal training services to maximize resident and staff engagement
- Additional duties as assigned
- Considerable amount of sitting, bending, standing, and walking.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance, 26 with manual or mechanical assistance
- Excellent communication skills
- Patience and compassion for residents, families and others
- Superior listening skills
- Ability to handle interruptions throughout the day and be able to prioritize workload
- Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship with internal and external customer groups
- Experience with providing exercise prescription for geriatric population
- Strong knowledge base of exercise and nutrition
- Bachelor Degree in health related field or combination education and experience to fulfill requirements of position
- Current CPR/First Aid certification
- Group fitness certification or equivalent certification
- Previous experience working with/helping elderly people
- A.C.S.M. or A.C.E. personal training certification
- At least one year experience in strength training, cardiovascular exercise and flexibility training
