The Catering Server plays a key role in executing high-quality food and beverage service for catered events, including banquets, receptions, meetings, and special functions. This position is responsible for the setup, service, and breakdown of catering events in accordance with all applicable health, safety, and service standards. Guided by the Catering and Special Events Manager and Supervisor, the Catering Server ensures that each event is executed smoothly, guests are served efficiently and courteously, and all aspects of service reflect the organization's core values: respect, passion, and professionalism.
What You’ll Do In This Role
- Execute the setup, service, and breakdown of catered events, including formal table settings, buffet lines, food stations, and beverage service areas.
- Serve hot and cold food items with attention to detail, presentation, and garnishing as outlined in the event plan.
- Provide polished and attentive guest service, maintaining a professional demeanor (dress code and grooming standards) throughout the event.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all event spaces, including service areas, buffet lines, and post-event breakdown zones.
- Follow precise instructions from the Catering Manager or Supervisor to meet event-specific needs and service styles (e.g., plated, buffet, passed hors d'oeuvres).
- Ensure adherence to food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations at all times.
- Collaborate closely with kitchen staff and event coordinators to ensure smooth service flow and timely delivery of food and beverage items.
- Remain flexible and ready to adapt to changing event needs or timelines.
- Uphold safety protocols, including lifting and carrying trays, maneuvering carts, and following emergency evacuation procedures if needed.
- Assist with inventory organization and light prep or staging as needed between events.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying trays (10–15 lbs), and standing/walking for extended periods (3–8 hours).
- Requires frequent bending, lifting, pushing, and maneuvering in both indoor and outdoor event settings.
- Capable of standing and walking for three to eight hour shifts.
- May involve prolonged standing and navigating busy service areas during high-volume events.
- Fast-paced, event-driven environment with exposure to varying temperatures, cleaning products, and physical exertion.
The Experience You’ll Bring
Required
- At least 16 years of age
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Familiarity with food safety, sanitation procedures, and proper handling of serving equipment and utensils.Must be available to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.
- Early morning and weekend availability will result in more hours.
- Flu Vaccinated.
Preferred
- Prior catering, banquet, or event service experience preferred but not required.
- COVID-19 Vaccinated. As of now, the 2025–2026 COVID-19 vaccine formulation is being distributed to providers and pharmacies; however, it has not yet received official approval from the CDC. In Virginia, pharmacists may administer COVID-19 vaccines under the Virginia Board of Pharmacy’s statewide protocols or with a direct order from a licensed medical provider.
