SKWC Utility Assistant Service Operator

SKWC Utility Assistant Service Operator
Primary Responsibilities:
- This position assists the SKWC Utility Service Operators with the operations and maintenance of the water reclamation facility, three pump stations, force mains and sewer transmission lines in the Wastewater Reclamation System and the operations and maintenance of the irrigation utility system, which includes four (4) pump stations, one collection reservoir, a chlorinator, filter and transmission system. This position is supervised by the SKWC Operation Manager and his/her designee in the absence of the SKWC Operation Manager. This position primarily supports/assists the SKWC Utility Service Operators during day to day operations and maintenance of the wastewater and irrigation utilities.
- Essential Functions - Duties and functions the employee must be able to perform basic tasks without supervision and more complex operations and maintenance tasks under the guidance of the SKWC Utility Service Operators.
- Works on-site at the wastewater reclamation facility and irrigation utility. While performing operational duties will work outdoors and may be exposed to the elements, hazardous, filthy, and obnoxious working environment. Administrative work will be performed in the Operations/SCADA room.

- Hours of Work: Shift. Work schedule to be posted the week before. Normal work hours are 7:00 am. to 3:00 pm, subject to change with or without notice. May be called back to work in the event of an emergency.
- Must be able to work under time constraints. Must be able to handle multiple tasks.
- Must be able to lift and carry 100 pounds. Must be able to climb steps and ladders of various heights and lengths. Must be able to work in close and confined quarters. Must be able to swim and tread water.
- Education: Graduation from High School or equivalent that is satisfactory to the Board of Certification.
- Work Experience: Two (2) years work experience in actual operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant or other experience where pumps, motors, valves and other equipment was used to convey liquids.
- Licenses: Valid Hawaii Driver’s License
- Proficient in performing simple arithmetic, algebra, and geometry calculations.
- Has thorough knowledge of the proper maintenance of the various wastewater treatment plant units and the mechanical equipment involved.
- Desirable Qualifications:
- License: Current Grade I certificate issued by the Board of Certification of Operating Personnel in Wastewater Treatment Facilities.
- Also, possession of one or more of the following journeyman’s trade licenses:
- Boiler Technician - water chemistry proficiency.
- Electrician
- Mechanic
