Elementary Paraprofessional (1:1)

Job Description: The one-on-one paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher by providing instructional, behavioral, social, and emotional support to students with academic, social, emotional, and/or behavioral disabilities. Based on the results of an annual performance evaluation, the Principal determines whether to consider continued employment. Performance Responsibilities: • Recognize escalation cycles and provide early intervention strategies. • Utilize calming techniques, sensory supports, and co-regulation strategies to help student maintain emotional regulation. • Conduct student check-ins and check-outs as assigned. • Provide movement breaks, transition support, and hallway regulation walks when appropriate. • Assist students in resetting and re-engaging following behavioral incidents. • Support classroom stability by helping students maintain readiness for learning. • Communicate observations and concerns regarding student regulation and behavior to appropriate staff. • Implement behavior intervention plans and support strategies as directed by licensed staff. • Reinforce behavior goals, replacement behaviors, and positive behavior supports. • Assist with structured break systems and reinforcement programs. • Collect and maintain behavioral data including frequency, duration, and intensity measures. • Support consistency of interventions across classroom, school, and community settings. • Communicate behavioral trends and patterns to the Special Education liaison and BCBA • Build positive, trusting relationships with the student. • Provide mentoring, encouragement, and emotional support. • Assist student in developing problem-solving and self-advocacy skills. • Facilitate restorative conversations when appropriate. • Promote positive peer interactions and social-emotional skill development. • Support the student in developing independence and appropriate coping strategies. • Maintain professional boundaries while fostering supportive relationships with the student. • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, behavior specialists, administrators, and other school staff to support student success. • Participate in student support team meetings and training opportunities. • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student support services. • Report concerns regarding student safety, well-being, or behavioral progress to appropriate personnel. • Participate in district-required training related to behavior supports, crisis prevention, and student services. • Assist in maintaining a positive and inclusive school climate. • Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Works independently with general guidance. Maintains cooperative relationships with students and adults. Manages time to accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Operates standard office equipment including computers, email, and copier. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing. Physical Requirements: Ability to move around the classroom, including stooping, bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs. Must be able to supervise students during outside recess in various temperatures. Possibly need to be trained in de-escalation and restraint techniques
