POSITION: Family Outreach and Engagement Mentor for WRES
QUALIFICATIONS: Desire to work with at-risk students and their families to support a student’s academic growth and personal well-being; familiarity of Westfield’s social services and understanding of family dynamics; bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
REPORTS TO: Principal or Principal Designee
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of authorized administrators and working with the school’s Student and Teacher Assistance Team, the Family Outreach and Engagement Mentor shall:
Identify students that may require extra support to make academic progress in school
Use attendance and academic data to identify students at-risk
Collaborate with administrators and counselors to determine a plan of action
Communicate with students, families, and school staff to determine barriers that impede learning:
Gather information from a variety of sources to determine the cause of academic failings, chronic absenteeism, and/or other issues that are prohibiting a student’s academic progress
Establish positive relationships with students and families, and engage them as a stakeholder to work towards solutions for these challenges
Keeping confidentiality at the forefront, continuously inform stakeholders of each student’s situation as needed
Coordinate needed support for students and families by providing them with information regarding school expectations, community services, and other options that will assist them in navigating challenging circumstances:
Understand the educational and social resources available to students and families
Forge relationships with community agencies, connect families to these agencies, and guide families in navigating the paperwork, communication, and other requirements necessary to utilize these services
Work with counselors, administrators, teachers, mentors, and other school personnel to ensure student growth and academic achievement
Complete documentation in a timely fashion, including notes, logs, and time cards
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must be available during the school day: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Part-time employment - Up to 15 hours per week
SALARY
Stipend- $30.00 per hour
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT
December 2025 – June 2026
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield Public School evaluation, observations by WRES Administration, and student/family feedback.
