Under the supervision of the Program Director or designee, the BHS serves as site coordinator for school-based mental health services. The BHS works in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary treatment team and school personnel to provide quality care to clients of the program. It is the primary function of the BHS to assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of the client’s individual treatment / behavior management focused on goals such as improving Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills, increasing self-regulation, and improving relationships with peers, family, and community. Responsibilities include management of the overall client treatment/ behavior management plan, including individualized support, coordination, and case management. Bilingual Spanish preferred. Services to be provided in-person.
Behavioral Health Specialist Responsibilities:
- Assists as needed in the assessment, treatment planning, and implementation process and completes all required documentation.
- Assists clients’ caregivers and site personnel in implementing behavioral program for targeted behaviors.
- Documents client’s response to treatment and communicates client’s progress in an accurate and timely manner.
- Completes a progress note for every service, following established charting standards.
- Services tend to be short-term and behavioral in nature.
- Facilitate short-term groups focusing on specific target behaviors.
- Attends and actively participates in group consultation at least twice monthly, with more as needed.
- Provides case management and linkage services and mental health support services per scope of practice guidelines.
- Serves as a community resource specialist to clients and facilitates involvement and participation with community/service-oriented organizations.
- Coordinates after-care/ continuing care program for clients and families.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Behavioral Health Specialist Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a mental health discipline or related field (Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services).
- Must possess active certification as a California Certified Wellness Coach (CWC). Candidates hired without current certification must obtain and provide verification of completion within 60 days of hire.
- Minimum two years’ experience in client-related services in mental health. May substitute 30 semester units in counseling, psychology, or social work for one year of experience.
- Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred
Salary: Hourly pay rate is $24.00 to $25.20. The actual hourly rate may vary based on experience, equity, market, and Agency considerations.
