It’s an exciting time to be a part of the team at Western Vista Federal Credit Union. We’re making significant changes to our operation and we’re looking for a dynamic and motivated person to join our accounting department.
In addition to supporting the financial management and operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports, the person in this position also performs a wide variety of operational support related tasks.
The Accounting Lead is key in ensuring the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the credit union's accounting/operations function. This position oversees day-to-day financial and operational functions, maintains accurate financial records, prepares reports, and supports the month-end and year-end close processes. The Accounting Lead also mentors accounting and operations staff, ensures regulatory and GAAP standards compliance, and assists leadership with budgeting, audits, and NCUA reporting.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting/operations activities, including electronic payments and draft processing, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll processing.
- Leads month-end and year-end closing procedures to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and review journal entries, financial statements, and management reports.
- Supervise, train, and provide guidance to accounting and operations team members.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and automation within accounting and operations processes
- Assist in special projects, financial analysis, and strategic initiatives as assigned by the CFO.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to ensure financial accuracy and transparency.
Performance Measurements:
- Ensure timely and accurate posting to member accounts in accordance with NCUA regulations, NACHA, and other regulatory policies.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure accurate account reconciliations.
- Streamline accounting and operations processes and enhance operational efficiency.
- Lead and develop accounting and operations staff to achieve department goals and efficiency.
- Ensure a strong internal control environment to safeguard members and credit union assets.
- Align accounting and operations activities with the credit union’s mission to serve members.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience, preferably within a financial institution or credit union environment. Education(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Interpersonal Skills: Motivating or influencing others is a material part of the job. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. The role requires a significant level of trust or diplomacy.
Other Skills: Must have good communication skills, 10 key calculator, and keyboard skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Physical Requirements: Sit for long periods of time. Long periods of time working on a computer.
Work Environment: Indoor office environment.

Pay: $28.23 - $42.35 per hour
