Veterinary Assistant-Small Animal
Job Summary:
The assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Veterinarians and/or Veterinary Technician primarily in the small animal department.
· Restrain animals for sample collection and/or treatment as needed.
· Collection of urine or fecal samples as needed for analysis.
· Treatment and care of hospitalized patients. This includes walking dogs at the beginning and end of each day. Administration of medications as instructed by technician or veterinarian.
· General cleaning and stocking of examination rooms.
· Clean and sanitize kennels/dog runs.
· Assist with end-of-day cleaning duties of entire clinic.
· Utilization of the computer program to access patient files for the purpose of inputting patient prescriptions/history/lab files, etc.
· May be required to assist with receiving and marking of inventory.
Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent, Veterinary/Lab Technology courses are recommended but not required.
Experience Requirements:
On-the-job training.
Specialized Training Requirements:
On-the-job training.
Aptitudes and Skills Requirements:
· Ability and/or willingness to work with multiple animal species.
· Possess the ability to safely lift 50-60 lbs and withstand prolonged periods of standing.
· Must be able to effectively communicate with other staff members and veterinary clientele.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
