About the Role
We are seeking a confident, emotionally intelligent Specialty Technician Manager to lead our technician teams across departments. This role is primarily centered in Emergency & Critical Care, our largest and most fast-paced department, with direct oversight extending to our Surgery, Cardiology, and Nutrition teams.
This is a role built for growth. As WVC continues to expand, so does the scope of this position, with a natural trajectory toward becoming our hospital-wide Technician Manager. If you're someone who thrives on building structure, developing people, and growing alongside a hospital that truly invests in its team, this is the opportunity you've been looking for.
You'll partner closely with hospital leadership, department leads, ER DVMs, and specialty teams to support both clinical excellence and team well-being across the hospital.
Department Structure
- Emergency & Critical Care - Your primary department and largest team, supported by two ECC Leads who report to you
- Surgery, A dedicated department with its own Supervisor reporting to you
- Cardiology & Nutrition, Smaller specialty teams (one day/week or virtual); your oversight is logistical and HR-focused rather than day-to-day clinical
The Ideal Candidate
- Prior leadership, supervisory, or management experience in veterinary ECC or ER
- Strong communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills
- A proactive, solutions-oriented leadership style
- Ability to assess workflows and drive efficiency improvements
- Comfort supporting HR-adjacent responsibilities (coaching conversations, documentation, performance support)
- Passion for building a positive, supportive, and accountable culture
- Excitement about growing into a broader, hospital-wide leadership role
- RVT required; VTS (ECC) strongly preferred
Key Responsibilities
Emergency & Critical Care (Primary Focus):
- Directly supervise and support two ECC Leads, providing mentorship, accountability, and regular feedback
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training ECC team members
- Develop, implement, and maintain training and competency programs
- Address concerns promptly to maintain a safe, respectful, drama-free work environment
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide actionable feedback
- Create and manage staff schedules that balance patient care and team wellness
- Monitor departmental metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Step in clinically as needed to support patient care and model teamwork
- Assist with equipment oversight, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Support Cubex management, inventory tracking, and restocking workflows
Specialty Departments (Surgery, Cardiology, Nutrition):
- Directly supervise the Surgery department Supervisor and provide leadership support across specialty teams
- Oversee logistical and HR-adjacent needs for Cardiology and Nutrition (scheduling coordination, documentation, communication)
- Collaborate on department goals and hospital-wide initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Why This Role Is Different
This is not a "put out fires all day" management role. You'll be empowered to:
- Build structure instead of constantly reacting
- Develop people, not just schedules
- Influence hospital growth and multi-specialty standards
- Grow your leadership scope as the hospital grows, with a real pathway to hospital-wide Technician Manager
- Be supported by leadership that values communication, transparency, and trust
If you're a technician leader ready to build something meaningful, and grow with a hospital that truly invests in its people and medicine, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today.
