Do you want a career where science meets service? The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department is looking for a full-time Environmental Health Sanitarian to join our team and help protect the health of thousands of residents and visitors.
Why This Role Matters
As part of our Food Protection Program, you’ll ensure safe dining experiences by inspecting restaurants, collaborating with business owners, and preventing foodborne illness. In addition to food safety, you will protect clean water, oversee proper wastewater disposal, and maintain safe facilities through inspections, outbreak investigations, and environmental monitoring. Every inspection, every recommendation, and every conversation contribute to a healthier, safer future for our community.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- NEHA REHS or Michigan RS credential preferred (must obtain within 2 years).
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and facility design.
- Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for public health.
