Job Duties
Western State Hospital is looking for a Unit Clerk to provide administrative/clerical support to the patient units in the hospital. This position is responsible for analyzing admission and discharged records for quantitative/qualitative deficiencies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and timely processing of records; facilitate non-clinical orders; maintain patient demographic labels; provide Electronic Medical Record (EMR) support/assistance to treatment team and other users; printing orders to accompany billing sheets; and updating client face sheets with updated legal status.
The Unit Clerk will serve as point of contact to request outside records for the healthcare team, follows the request until the records are received, and then notifies the provider when the record is available; routing authorized representative request forms to the Hospital Director's office; and maintains copies of Treatment Plan signature sheets, MAK, Lab, and Release of Information.

Minimum Qualifications
- high school graduate or equivalent with computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office
- previous experience in clerical or patient care related experience
- knowledge of hospital services, record keeping, medical terminology, office procedures, an the standards governing medical records
- experience with or practical knowledge of Document Management, or other software utilized to scan medical records, and Millennium, or other EHR applications
- ability to prioritize and organize tasks and to multi-task in a high stress environment
- problem solving skills and decision making skills
- must possess effective and professional oral/written communication
- ability to collect and assemble information into an appropriate format for reporting/review by outside sources
- ability to maintain harmonious working public relations
- ability to work with a variety of staff and ability to work in various areas of the hospital, which can include patient care areas
- ability to work in a patient care area handling highly confidential information; working knowledge/understanding of HIPAA privacy regulations
