Authorization Specialist

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Authorization Specialist to join our growing physical therapy company. This role plays a critical part in ensuring patients receive timely access to care by securing and managing insurance authorizations.

Start: ASAP

Hours: Monday - Friday; 8am - 5pm

Pay: $23 - $26/hour DOE

Job Duties

• Obtain prior authorizations for physical therapy evaluations and ongoing treatment plans
• Verify insurance benefits, including visit limits, co-pays, deductibles, and referral requirements
• Communicate with insurance providers to submit, track, and follow up on authorization requests
• Ensure continuity of care by proactively managing authorization expirations and extensions
• Coordinate closely with front office staff and clinicians to align scheduling with approved visits
• Accurately document all authorization activity within the EMR system
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve authorization delays or denials
• Stay current on payer requirements specific to outpatient physical therapy services
• Support clinic operations by reducing gaps in care and preventing revenue loss due to authorization issues

Qualities Desired

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high volumes of time-sensitive tasks
• Working knowledge of insurance authorization processes, ideally within outpatient physical therapy or healthcare
• Clear and professional communication skills with both internal teams and external payers
• Ability to think critically and problem-solve in situations involving insurance barriers
• High level of accountability, organization, and follow-through
• Adaptability and efficiency in a fast-paced setting
• Experience with EMR systems and medical terminology preferred

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
