POSITION TITLE
Employment Specialist/Job Coach
2. EMPLOYMENT STATUS
This position is considered to be a part-time, non-exempt position.
3. ROLE RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Director of Student Support
4. DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
Create employment opportunities for assigned students. Cultivate relationships with
local businesses to generate employment leads.
Develop or implement a personalized on-the-job training program for each employed
students to help him or her learn and perform the requirements of the job
Encourage and motivate the student to fully engage in work and make a long-term
commitment on the job
Provide ongoing, immediate feedback, assistance, and follow-up to support student
success in the workplace
Work closely with the employment team to deliver a personalized, holistic approach to
job preparation and training
Identify workplace challenges and interventions to preserve the integrity of the student
and to maintain the job
Provide follow-up feedback to assess the quantity and quality of services provided and
the student’s employment status
Work closely with the employer, engaging them as advocates and mediators for the
student. Partner with the employer to provide work accommodations as necessary
Help teach appropriate social behavior to individuals modeling it at all times, including
maintaining a good attendance record, punctuality, following the work procedures,
maintaining appropriate workplace behaviors, dressing appropriately, and filling out our
time sheets accurately and on time
Develop and maintain good relationships with partnering companies and agencies while
educating employers regarding working with people with barriers to employment.
Promote the success of the placement by providing advocacy
Develop and maintain strong relationships with student’s families to support job
experience
Ensure compliance with contracts with partnering companies and agencies. Submit
monthly coaching reports and any other required documentation
Attend departmental and agency-wide staff meetings and/or trainings as required
Perform additional duties as required by supervisor
5. QUALIFICATIONS
a. CERTIFICATE(S) REQUIRED
Certification of PA Mandated Reporter training
PA State Police Criminal clearance
PA Child Abuse clearance
FBI clearance
Act 82
b. SPECIALIZED TRAINING, EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, and any related
field.
The Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) for the position is “Advanced.” The minimum
level accepted at hire is “Novice.”
Relevant experience with people with disabilities and 3 years of prior work experience are
desirable.
Experience in recruitment, job placement or Human Resources may be applicable.
Valid and insurable driver’s license
Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills with people from
diverse backgrounds
Able to effectively and persuasively explain and advocate for the employment of students.
Able to partner with employers to support student employment.
Demonstrates flexibility, good judgment and problem-solving skills, patience, and
persistence.
Demonstrates the organization’s core competencies and solid customer service skills.
Must demonstrate the ability to approach others in a tactful, professional manner. Must
react well under pressure and treat others with respect and consideration, regardless of
their status or position. Must accept responsibility for own actions and follow through on
commitments.
Able to adapt to changes in the work environment and change approaches or methods to
best fit the situation. Must be able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected
events.
Must be available to maintain a flexible work schedule and be “on-call” weekends and
or/evenings.
6. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift objects such as reams of paper, stacks of reports, generally objects 15 pounds or
less
- Ability to assist lifting students weighing up to 300 pounds
- Attend to needs of students
- Ability to assist in physical restraint of students as per CPI requirements
- Walking around on campus and off campus
- Standing for long periods of time
- Ability to transport/escort students to work locations
Pay: From $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 – 15.0 per week
