Responsibilities
- Act as the central point of contact for patients regarding treatment schedules, procedures, and follow-up care
- Assist providers with treatment planning by reviewing medical records, insurance authorizations, and coding requirements such as DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient interactions, treatment plans, and clinical notes within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Verify insurance coverage and process pre-authorizations using detailed knowledge of medical billing and collections procedures
- Collaborate with billing departments to ensure proper coding for procedures and diagnoses to optimize reimbursement
- Maintain comprehensive medical records while adhering to privacy regulations and organizational standards
- Educate patients on their treatment options, financial responsibilities, and next steps in their care journey
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a medical/dental office setting with familiarity in medical/dental terminology and records management
- Strong knowledge of coding including CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
- Experience with medical/dental billing and collections processes to facilitate accurate reimbursement
- Proficiency in EMR or EHR systems for documentation and data entry
- Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with patients, providers, and insurance companies
- Ability to interpret complex medical/dental information accurately and efficiently
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance standards related to medical records privacy and security
