Job Overview
Located in the heart of Beaver County, the Western PA Surgery Center, Beaver County Branch is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Operating Room team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operating room medical setting and possess a deep understanding of anatomy and medical procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Plans, organizes, documents and evaluates nursing care of the operative patient.
- Monitors the sterile environment and implements principles of aseptic technique.
- Understands proper positioning techniques, anesthesia and anesthetic agents effects, along with a professional knowledge of surgical instruments, use and care.
- Commands knowledge of surgical procedures, techniques and consequent nursing interventions, and the ability to recognize an emergency situation and react to it.
- Checks with surgeon and makes available proper equipment and instruments for procedures.
- Positions patient safely, properly and comfortably according to their specific needs and those required by the procedure.
- Stands by patient during administration of anesthesia.
- Introduces self and team members to patients and their families. Identifies patients while offering a brief explanation of their role. Assists in transporting or escorting patient to the operating room.
- Assists in transportation or escort of patient to the post anesthesia area.
- Assists with room clean-up and turnover.
- Accepts, labels, documents, and logs all specimens.
- Assists with surgical dressing.
- Anticipates needs before, during, and after surgical event. Supervises and participates in sponge, needle, and instrument counts, as applicable.
- Documents complete information in O.R. nursing records reflecting nursing assignment, care given, and effectiveness of care.
- Recognizes patients rights of informed consent, confidentiality, refusal for treatment and provides patient with opportunities to express needs and concerns using this information in all aspects of care planning.
Qualifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse license
- Proficiency in medical documentation and record-keeping
- Experience in operating room or surgical settings preferred
- Knowledge of anatomy and various medical procedures
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
