The WNY Peace Center seeks a highly motivated person who is passionate about peace and social justice issues as expressed in our Mission Statement: The Western New York Peace Center is committed to peace through justice both locally and globally by promoting peace education, issue awareness, and policy advocacy. Our mission is to enhance the well-being of our community through nonhierarchical and reciprocal collaborative efforts; cultivating a movement dedicated to both preventing violence against individuals and the environment, while facilitating regenerative healing from years of trauma and oppression. We prioritize peaceful conflict resolution within communities with a particular emphasis on empowering youth, as well as life-long learning.
The WNY Peace Center is a nonprofit, member driven organization founded in 1967. Our taskforces focus on interconnectedness of our mission and our vision as a force for progressive change. The WNY Peace Center serves as an incubator of new ideas promoting activism as it strives to increase communication and collaboration among the people and organizations of WNY .Experience:
- Experience creating financial budgets.
- Knowledge of maintaining an organization's 501c(3) Tax Exempt Status for non-profits.
- Demonstrated experience in management, grant writing, and meaningful accomplishments achieved working with community-centered organizations.
- Computer competence is required; the ability to learn new software and technology is imperative.
- Willing to represent the Western New York Peace Center (WNYPC) as requested.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- Master’s Degree or higher.
- Five years of experience successfully working with community based nonprofit organizations.
- Media training and experience with public facing positions.
Duties & responsibilities:
- Uphold processes of organization and meet all deadlines essential to functioning and the legality of the organization, including providing information for taxes and forms essential to the maintenance of the organization’s 501c(3) status and the WNY Peace Center’s eligibility for grant funds.
- Maintain adequate insurance coverage including property, injury, and against defamation claims, of all officers, board members and volunteers of the WNYPC.
- Maintain accurate financial records, which can be shared with board members, members, and other interested parties. The process in which these financial records have been created and obtained shall be transparent to all board members and officers of the WNYPC.
- Provide oversight to the WNYPC’s task forces, which are subgroups that focus on a shared core belief of the organization. The Executive Director will assist with the larger goals of a given task force by designing and supporting campaigns that are appropriate for the WNYPC.
- Responsible for identifying and coordinating grant applications to support our organization and support our mission statement, as well as maintain compliance with New York State law governing charitable appeals.
- Develop collaborations with other community-based organizations. They will grow their knowledge of community issues and work together to achieve goals which help the community and further the mission of the WNYPC.
- The Executive Director will act in accordance with the main principles of the WNY Peace Center and will uphold WNYPC’s Code of Conduct and bylaws.
This is a part-time position (estimated 20-30 hours a week) at a rate between $35 and $40 per hour plus benefits, with the opportunity to become a full time position in the future. If deemed beneficial by the hiring committee, the Executive Director position may be shared between two applicants.
