Western Montana Aging Services is seeking an experienced, reliable accounting professional to support the financial operations of our growing nonprofit organization.
This position is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical bookkeeping or accounting experience.
Must have knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles. Historical knowledge of accounting practices, nonprofit operations, governmental funding, or grant requirements would be valuable.
The successful candidate will work closely with our Fiscal Administrator and program staff to maintain accurate financial records, support grant and fund accounting, and help ensure financial practices meet organizational, contractual and funding requirements.
What You'll Do
· Process accounts payable and assist with accounts receivable, deposits, and payment processing.
· Enter and maintain accurate financial transactions in the accounting system.
· Support grant and fund accounting by allocating expenses to the appropriate programs, grants and funding sources.
· Review employee travel and expense reimbursements, including mileage, per diem, receipts, approvals, and supporting documentation.
· Provide payroll support by reviewing documentation, verifying information, and maintaining payroll records.
· Review invoices, purchase orders, receipts, and other financial documentation for accuracy, authorization and appropriate coding.
· Assist with bank, credit card, general ledger, fund, grant and program reconciliations.
· Maintain organized accounting records and documentation required by grants, contracts, funding agencies and audits.
· Assist with monthly, quarterly, year-end financial processes and respond professionally to routine financial questions from employees, vendors, and program staff.
· Maintain complete confidentiality of payroll, financial, employee and organizational information
· Perform other related duties as assigned based on operational need.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who brings practical accounting experience, sound judgment and a willingness to work as part of a team.
· Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience and a working knowledge of general accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.
· Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, payroll support or general ledger functions.
· Strong attention to detail, sound organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to manage priorities and deadlines.
· Ability to understand and follow funding requirements, expense restrictions and documentation requirements.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and the ability to learn accounting software.
· Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the Fiscal Administrator and program staff.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial and employee information appropriately.
Experience We Especially Value
· Fund accounting, grant accounting, nonprofit accounting, governmental accounting or restricted funding experience.
· Experience in a nonprofit, governmental, healthcare, human-services or other regulated environment.
· Practical accounting experience that may have been gained outside a recent degree program or formal accounting title.
· Institutional perspective and a desire to help strengthen financial processes as the organization grows.
Position Details
Location: Polson, Montana
Employment Type: Part-time or full-time; schedule flexible for the right candidate
Starting Pay: $$18-22.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
