Overview
Western Meadows Landscape is seeking a Superintendent to oversee 1 to 3 crews, each consisting of one foreman and 5 to 7 crew members. Good organization, communication, and leadership skills are required, as well as the ability to read, interpret, and follow construction plans, details, and specifications. Knowledge of irrigation and landscaping, whether by education, experience, or both, is required. Knowledge of Spanish is encouraged but not required. Must be familiar with equipment operation and trailer towing. There are opportunities for growth within Western Meadows Landscape. This position is salaried. Salary will be discussed during the interview process.
- A Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of assigned field crews, ensuring that all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards and project plans and specifications.
- This position serves as the primary field leader, providing direction, coordination, and supervision to assigned Crew Foremen to ensure successful project execution and adherence to established schedules and quality expectations.
Job Description
- The Superintendent is responsible for managing field operations on multiple job sites, coordinating labor, materials, and equipment, and ensuring that all assigned projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Meet and coordinate with the General Contractors or Owners’ Representatives.
- Possess strong leadership skills, practical field experience, and the ability to motivate teams while upholding company values of quality, safety, and professionalism.
- Salary is based on 2,080 hours per year (full-time). Most hours are accumulated between March and December
- During the landscape working months, working hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Extended hours may be required to ensure the project(s) are ready for the following day or completed on time.
Requirements
1. EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Associate degree or technical training in landscape construction, project management, or a related field.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
2. EXPERIENCE
- Required: Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial landscaping or construction, including at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Preferred: Experience in site supervision with strong knowledge of construction documents such as plans, details, and specifications. Knowledge of grading, irrigation, hardscape, and planting operations.
3. LICENSING / CERTIFICATION
- Required: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Required: Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC) Certificate or willingness to obtain it and follow the continued education training program for certification.
- Attend trainings and classes to increase irrigation and landscape skills.
4. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to direct multiple crews effectively.
- Deep understanding of landscape installation processes, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of jobsite safety protocols and ability to enforce them consistently.
- Ability to manage time, manpower, and resources efficiently to meet production goals.
- Skill in reading, interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and executing work accordingly.
- Proficient in field reporting, daily logs, and mobile project management tools.
- Ability to identify and solve problems in the field with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and decision-making skills under time-sensitive conditions.
5. WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position is field-based and requires daily presence on job sites.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, heavy equipment, and physical construction environments is expected.
- Standard work hours are full-time, Monday through Friday, with an occasional need to stay late as required to meet project needs or deadlines.
6. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of Crew Foremen assigned to projects.
- Review job plans, schedules, and work orders, to ensure that all assigned tasks are completed on time and as per plans and specifications.
- Ensure that all work is executed safely and in compliance with the company.
- Monitor labor productivity and job progress; adjust crew assignments and priorities as needed.
- Conduct daily site inspections for safety, quality, and progress.
- Communicate regularly (daily) with the Operations Manager to report job status, challenges, and needs.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Oversee ordering of material, deliveries, verify quantities, and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Train and mentor Crew Foremen to improve skills, productivity, and teamwork.
- Follow and implement all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and checklists.
- Support project closeout by ensuring completion of punch list items and client satisfaction.
