Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated individual to join our team in a dual-role capacity as a Van Driver and Peer Support Specialist (PSS).

This 20-hour-a-week position is essential to expanding access to our services. You will provide safe transportation for community members to and from The HILLS Recovery Center for support meetings, events, and resources, while also assisting with donation pick-ups. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will draw from your own lived experience with substance use disorder recovery to provide non-clinical support, build trust, and help individuals initiate and maintain their recovery journeys.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation & Driving

  • Safe operation of the center’s van to transport participants to and from support meetings, center events, and appointments.
  • Coordinate and execute donation pick-ups and deliveries for the center.
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance checks, cleanliness, and safety standards are consistently met.

Peer Support & Community Engagement

  • Offer non-judgmental, non-clinical peer support using your personal recovery journey to build authentic relationships.
  • Assist participants in identifying goals, navigating local recovery resources, and reducing barriers to care.
  • Model effective coping skills and recovery strategies.

Schedule & Availability

  • Maintain flexibility to adjust working hours week to week depending on program needs, meetings, and events.
  • Consistently work assigned shifts that include evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Lived Experience: Lived experience with substance use disorder and currently identifying as being in personal recovery.
  • Driving Record & Area Knowledge: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, reliable personal transport required for work-related travel outside van duties, and good knowledge of the local surrounding areas.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including regular evenings and weekends, adjusted weekly based on program needs.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certifications: Ability to obtain Recovery Coaching certification within 6 months of hire (paid training provided).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with demonstrated compassion.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience providing peer support services.
  • Demonstrated personal recovery history.
  • Solid working knowledge of local recovery resources, 12-step programs, community support groups, harm reduction strategies, and treatment programs.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
