Western Machine Works, LLC is a Portland-based precision machine shop specializing in the repair and manufacture of equipment for critical industries such as pulp and paper, wind power, marine, and other heavy industries. WMW is a division of In-Place Machining Company (IPM), a collection of expert service companies, specializing in field or in-shop machining, precision equipment alignments and metrology.
Position Summary: The Financial Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate and timely financial reporting for Western Machine Works and ensuring compliance with tax and other company obligations. This role helps ensure that Western reports accurate and useful financial information to both internal and external stakeholders.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations in support of the period financial close cycle
- Prepare analysis to support monthly revenue recognition
- Perform job cost accounting tasks, including verifying that jobs are closed in a timely and accurate manner
- Ensure transactions are recorded in the correct general ledger accounts
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports or analysis as needed
- Support the annual financial audit and preparation of income tax returns
- Maintain accurate fixed asset schedules and record asset additions, dispositions, and depreciation
- Prepare and submit sales & use tax and property tax returns
- Prepare and submit annual reports and other compliance tasks
- Maintain customer sales tax exemption certificates
- Work on site in Portland, Oregon daily. Remote work is not an option for this role. Other duties as assigned including vacation coverage for payroll processing and purchasing
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary range: starting at $85,000 – $110,000 depending on experience

Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or Economics from an accredited college/university
- 5 years of relevant financial accounting experience; a background in services or manufacturing is preferred
- CPA or other accounting-related certification, is a plus.
- Familiarity with sales tax compliance
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to achieve desired outcomes
- Excellent organization and self-management skills
- A penchant for accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong computer knowledge and skills, including accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
- A desire to continuously improve processes to help achieve company goals
