Role Description The Traffic Signal Tech role is a full-time, on-site position based in Canton, GA. The role involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing traffic signal equipment, including controllers, cabinets, signal heads, detection systems, wiring, and related hardware. The Traffic Signal Tech will perform field diagnostics, respond to service calls, and complete preventive maintenance checks to ensure systems operate safely and reliably. Daily tasks include working outdoors in various weather conditions, following safety protocols and local standards, reading plans and wiring diagrams, documenting work performed, and communicating with supervisors and project managers. The role may involve working in or near active roadways, using hand and power tools, operating bucket trucks or similar equipment, and supporting project schedules that can include occasional evening or weekend work.
Qualifications
- Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot traffic signal equipment, controllers, cabinets, and detection systems, using appropriate tools and test equipment.
- Skill in reading and interpreting traffic signal plans, wiring diagrams, schematics, and basic electrical layouts, with attention to detail and safety.
- Knowledge of electrical and low-voltage systems, including safe wiring practices, grounding, and use of multimeters or similar diagnostic devices.
- Capability to work safely in and around roadways, follow traffic control procedures, and use personal protective equipment in compliance with safety standards.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with supervisors, coworkers, and clients, and to complete clear service reports and documentation.
- Physical ability to work outdoors, stand for extended periods, lift equipment, climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces as required.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record; ability to operate company vehicles and, if applicable, bucket trucks or similar equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in traffic signal work, ITS, electrical trades, or related field is preferred.
